Gearing up for RSA 2013

Innovation-sandbox-nov2013While I admit, I’ve walked many a show floor for clients over the years this is a first – I’m headed to RSA 2013 in San Francisco next week.

Emails about conference details have steadily filled my inbox over the past month, and I have to say the show organizers have done a really nice job of laying out the agenda. There are more angles on security than I would have thought possible – and certainly more than a few topics of interest for anyone immersed in the space.

There are sessions that weave in current technology trends such as mobile computing, cloud and virtualization, Big Data, and governance and compliance – all with a focus on security of course. But there’s more – much more - interesting topics like curtailing cyber abuse, cyber-sleuthing, code breaking and hacking, and my favorite, “innovative ways to secure the human.”

The Human Element is a brand new track for RSA this year. The session will take a look at insider threats like social networking, social engineering and security awareness. How people make trust choices with technology and how attacks are being re-architected to include a human element.  Certainly interesting timing with the latest news this past week on targeting Apple developers to reach a broader base of Mac users.

In planning my calendar for the show with the help of their handy RSA mobile app and show navigator – I did carve out time to attend the Innovation Sandbox – happening Monday. This is security start-up central and top ten finalists have already been selected for a live showdown for the coveted show title “Most Innovative Company at RSA Conference 2013”.

If you are curious to see who’s made the top ten list check out Innovation Sandbox on the RSA site or follow me on Twitter @2thebeach next week to find out who wins.

For now – I’m off to scour my closet for my most comfortable pair of shoes. A must for any tradeshow attendee.
