What Makes Austin Perfect for Tech? Austinites Speak Out! #LPPOH

284843-austin-tech-in-the-cityThis week is the week! Our LPP Austin Open House is this Thursday, and we're looking forward to seeing LPP alumni, LPP clients, high-tech professionals and Austin-area tech influencers gather under our brand new roof on West 6th Street.

Not only is our space more decked out, but we're stepping up our game to make sure our guests get the chance to participate in some fun activities (one of which may or may not involve a bingo-scavenger hunt hybrid), pose for cool photo opps, amuse themselves with fun props and, of course, catch up with peers and chat about all things high-tech and Austin. Will you be joining us on Thursday?

Continuing our blog series around what should be the hottest topic of conversation at the event, we asked our Austin LPPers and fellow Austin high-tech pros for their thoughts in our kick-off blog post celebrating Austin’s high-tech heritage. To share YOUR thoughts with us, comment on this post or tweet @LPP_PR using the #LPPOH Twitter hashtag!

What do you think makes Austin perfect for tech?

“Austin is the perfect mix of talent, perseverance and entertainment. The first two comprise my formula for success in this industry, while the latter keeps those of us in the trenches from burning out quicker than the next software startup. With one of the world’s premiere research universities at the nucleus of an eclectic mix of professionals, Austin is continually reinventing itself with fresh talent and ambition while keeping true to its (some might say weird) identity.”

– Travis Williams

“The weather. Because it forces people to stay inside all day to hide from the awful heat and humidity, thereby making them more productive and prone to nerding about indoors on their computers. And while that could be spun into a not-as-sarcastic answer, I’d actually say the unique convergence of industries. There’s a storied tech history with AMD, Dell, Silicon Labs, but there’s also the Capitol which brings political leaders and key demographics from throughout the state of Texas. And there’s the University, which is inherently innovative with young, thoughtful minds that are ready to disrupt spaces.”

@CalvinWCohen

“Austin is a city that is not only young; it’s a city that supports entrepreneurship. The city motto, Keep Austin Weird, encourages people to support local endeavors – and by extension, to start them, knowing the rest of the city has their back. It’s a city of young people, who are encouraged to think creatively – weirdly, if you will – and dream up ways to fix the things that don’t work or could work better. It’s a city that supports the risk-takers and the dreamers. Plus, with a ridiculously high number of universities within city limits, there are a lot of fresh young minds coming into the city that are thinking big.”

@PhoebeFrancis

 “Because Austin has been named one of the best cities for young professionals as well as a great place for startups, it is well positioned to support a growing tech scene. Austin’s entrepreneurial spirit combined with a large concentration of Gen Ys are ideal for generating ideas that will take us forward as we all become more connected and technology that was once considered “in the weeds” becomes more relevant to the average person.”

@JamieMAnderson

 “Austin is a great incubator for tech because it’s a young and hip city where things are always happening. When you combine the elements of an extensive angel-financing and VC network, world-class university (Hook ‘em Horns!), and competitive atmosphere ,you create a perfect environment for the entrepreneur.”

@PaulJones375

 “As one of America’s fastest growing cities, Austin is a perfect place for tech firms, both major companies and small startups, because they have access to a diverse population of highly educated, creative and young talent. It’s also doesn’t hurt that “Silicon Hills" is home to the South by Southwest Interactive conference, which attracts some 20,000+ tech innovators and leaders each year.”
